GEM is a group of like-minded individuals in education, government and business that works to promote international education initiatives across the state of Massachusetts. School-Museum Collaboration The Peabody Essex Museum's Yin Yu Tang project connects Newton students with a county school in Anhui Province to collect oral history information for the Museum, which is located in Salem, Massachusetts. Several delegations of administrators from Xiuning County Middle School have visited Newton; delegations of students and teachers from Newton have visited Xiuning in alternating years.Pathways to China Pathways to China: Five Massachusetts schools and school systems, under the direction of Todd Whitten of Burlington (MA) Public Schools, collaborated in the design of a course to offer Massachusetts students in grades 8-12 an opportunity to study about Chinese culture, history, and society through twenty-four online learning modules in combination with classroom instruction and travel. The interdisciplinary learning modules are available to other school systems.
